This project was to make a simplistic and easily digestible infographic on the bushfires in Australia and the devastation they are causing without oversimplifying such a large issue.
I have made infographic in a poster format as well as a mobile phone size and square framing which would fit into a popular social media app like Instagram.
I began by researching about the Australian bushfires and the absolutely unfathomable amount of devastation, cost, and effect on the environment it all has inspired me to make this infographic. Something that pushed my towards the simplistic design was that It was a huge surprise to me how big of a deal these fires are and how much they effect everyone around the world despite the fact that they take place in the remote continent of Australia. I think the first step to spreading information like this out to the public is to hand it in a pleasing and very digestible way that can get conversations started.
So once I had my research in order and condensed some important points I made countless formats and crude sketches before making some assets and initial drafts in InDesign and Illustrator. For the final draft I played off the blue and red present in the Australian flag and also incorporated a yellowish color from their national colors which also fit in well with the subject of fires and the Australian outback. Since I have the continent shown on my infographic I thought to add a background that could look good with text bubbles but also look like the ocean from a world map and added a almost pastel turquoise to not overpower the designs.
